Rich Karlgaard is the publisher of Forbes and in his column "Digital Rules" for Sept. 18, 2006 he gives another major endorsement to private jets in main piece entitled "Private Jet Boom."
Some key numbers:
- 40% increase in jet charters the week after the UK airline bomb plots
- 35% increase in sales during the first half of 2006 for private planes
- Over the last five years, "premium" business travelers on major airlines has decreased from 18% to 9%
The outlook in Rich's mind is that air taxis equal a kind of salvation for the other 9% currently on the major airlines. And in addition, investment funds continue to flowing to innovative aircraft manufacturers:
- $225 million to Eclipse
- $93 million to Adam Aircraft
The end game though for Rich is how will his 250,000 a year miles flown on premium priced major airlines tickets translate into an air taxi model. Two services are for sure going to be trying: POGO and DayJet are examples cited in the article.
Definitely a trend to watch ...
